A Birthday to Remember

I took a client out for lunch to celebrate his birthday at his favorite restaurant. He was excited the moment we arrived. That excitement carried him straight to the restroom. Since independent bathroom time is not an option, I followed along.

Without hesitation, he chose a urinal, dropped his pants, turned around, and attempted to use it as a toilet. Before I could redirect him to a stall, the situation had already escalated beyond recovery. The other gentleman at the neighboring urinal zipped up, skipped the handwashing step entirely, and made a rapid exit—as if the building itself might explode.

I managed to get my client into a stall, clean him up, and assess the damage. At that point, we mutually agreed that dining in was no longer part of the birthday plan. On our way out, I politely informed the host that the men’s restroom would be in need of a very enthusiastic cleaning.

Sometimes the best birthday gift is knowing when it’s time to call it a day.
